Solar appointment setting in MT

Solar appointment setting in Montana

Solar companies and setters calling homeowners in Montana work under the federal telemarketing rules plus Montana's own. Here is what each one means for a solar appointment floor, with the official source for every rule.

From official sources, checked September 26, 2026. General information, not legal advice.

Montana rules for a solar floor

Telemarketer registration

Montana requires some telephone sellers or telemarketers to register or be licensed before calling there. Register with the Department of Justice unless exempt; renew annually. Check the exemptions before your floor dials Montana.

Mont. Code Ann. 30-14-1404

Calling window

Montana's own window is 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., the same as the federal window. It covers telemarketing to a person's residence.

Mont. Code Ann. 30-14-1412(1)(d)

Do not call list

Montana relies on the National Do Not Call Registry. Rule makes the national list the state do not call database.

Admin. R. Mont. 23.19.507; Mont. Code Ann. 30-14-1603

Automated and recorded calls

Montana has its own law on automated or recorded sales calls. Automated dialing with recorded sales messages restricted; live operator permission exception. It can be stricter than the federal rules.

Mont. Code Ann. 45-8-216

Recording calls

Montana requires the consent of all parties to record a call. Hidden recording needs all parties' knowledge; a warning suffices. Tell the homeowner the call is recorded before recording.

Mont. Code Ann. 45-8-213(1)(c), (2)(a)(iii)

Montana requires sellers and telemarketers to register with the Department of Justice unless exempt, uses the national do not call list as its state database, limits telemarketing to a residence to 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time, and restricts automated recorded sales messages.
